ARM Techcon – Mastering Real-time Debugging Techniques on the Cortex-M

Embedded software developers can spend anywhere between 40 and 60 percent of the design cycle debugging their software. Debugging is a huge bottleneck in the design cycle and minor improvements in debugging time can result in decreased costs, faster time to market and a greater focus on adding features and improving system robustness. In this session, we will cover fundamental debugging techniques and introduce the latest and greatest debugging tools such as ITM, statistical profiling and tracing along with how these tools can be used to decrease time spent debugging software.
There will be several key take-a-ways for attendees:
- How to use the ITM to efficiently get real-time debugging information
- How to setup and use a trace tool to discover problems with their software
- Tips and tricks for debugging an embedded systems
- General debugging processes that can help improve their debugging times
This session will walk developers through the fundamental and advanced debugging techniques that can be used to debug a real-time embedded system based on a Cortex-M. The session will start basic and introduce advanced techniques which should make it a session for all embedded software developers.
