Arm's 32-bit microcontroller architecture family — Cortex-M0/0+/3/4/4F/7/23/33/35P/52/55/85. The dominant ISA for embedded MCUs across virtually every silicon vendor (ST, NXP, Nordic, TI, Infineon, Renesas, Microchip, Espressif, Silicon Labs). Cortex-M33+ adds TrustZone-M for secure execution; M55/M85 add the Helium DSP/ML extension.
Keep Cortex-M as the default 32-bit MCU architecture for new projects unless there's a specific reason (cost, sovereignty, vector ML, custom ISA extensions) to evaluate RISC-V or another architecture.
Replaces the prior vendor-specific MCU callouts (STM32H5, ESP32-C6, nRF54, CC27xx). Pairs with #57 RISC-V Microcontrollers as the alternative architecture entry.
